I LOVE FALL! Unwinding after a busy, event-filled summer, getting back on a schedule, and enjoying more of my home is just what I need to keep going during the active months of the year. My favorite part of fall is slowing down, cozying up with a good book under a heavy blanket, and enjoying my favorite glass of red wine. And, of course, the crisp fall air! But, while I’m taking care of myself in the fall, I also care for my home. Here are some of my favorite fall tips for your home in Charlotte, NC.

The Teal Pumpkin Project

Teal Pumpkins make trick-or-treating more inclusive for children with food allergies and other intolerances. A teal pumpkin on your porch indicates that, besides candy, you offer non-food knick-knacks and safe treats for all trick-or-treaters.

 

Aerate Your Lawn

Fall is the time to aerate your lawn in Charlotte, NC. Lawn aeration involves perforating the soil on your property with small holes, which helps improve the absorption of water, air, and nutrients by the grass’s roots, resulting in a greener, healthier lawn.

Inspect Your Chimney

Inspecting your chimney and fireplace in the fall has several benefits. First, chimney sweeps will remove creosote to prevent dangerous fires in your chimney. But there are other benefits, too, including improved air quality in your home, keeping your home warmer when the fireplace is not in use, and saving energy. Call your local chimney sweeper to inspect and clean your chimney before you start your first fire.

Cooler temps mean you must prepare your HVAC system for fall maintenance, which ensures it’ll run smoothly for longer. Well-running systems are more energy efficient and will save you money in the long run. P.S. Have them check your bathroom fan too!!!

We all know that Charlotte, NC is a major metropolitan city with all the amenities of big-city living. However, did you know you can skip trek to the mountains or hillside country to find great fall activities? That’s right; fall fun is right here in your backyard! Here are some of my favorite fall activities in and around Charlotte.

Riverbend Farms

With 30 years as a Pumpkin Patch, Riverbend Farms in Midland, NC, has the fall festivities dialed in. Choose from a variety of pumpkins and gourds directly from the fields. They have four large wagons that go to and from the patches on the weekends, so you can stay there as long as you want. On weekday afternoons, two wagons run continuously. Riverbend is known for its playground and jumbo slides for kids of all ages to enjoy.

Windy Hill Orchards

Windy Hill Orchards is one of the most popular fall activities near Charlotte, NC. Family-owned and operated, this boutique apple orchard and Hard Cider producer is located in the upstate of South Carolina, less than an hour from center-city Charlotte. This orchard has all your favorite fall classics, including apple picking, hard cider flights, fried apple donuts, live music, and much more! It makes for a great day trip with your family!

Scarowinds

Prepare yourself for a good time at Scarowinds – the Carolinas’ best thing to do for Halloween. Navigate through the darkness of horrifying haunted mazes. Discover a world of living nightmares in elaborate scare zones. Get into the Halloween spirit with our ghastly collection of live shows. With spine-chilling haunted attractions and mazes, over 500 terrifying monsters, and the thrills of all your favorite rides, whatever you fear is here at SCarowinds. They also have a few haunted mansions to walk through and haunted areas throughout the park.

Amazing Maize Maze @ Rural Hill

Get lost in seven acres of corn; perfect for outdoor, family-friendly fun! The Amazing Maize Maze at Rural Hill is one of the giant corn mazes in the Southeast, sure to test your puzzle-solving abilities.

Scarecrow Hollow

Daniel Stowe Garden hosts its Scarecrow Hollow exhibit outside Charlotte, in Belmont, NC. Scarecrow Hollow is an eclectic display of original scarecrows for you to enjoy with the whole family. They are unique and designed by members, supporters, and local organizations. Explore Lost Hollow to take photos with and vote for your favorite scarecrow.

Panthers Football Game

There’s nothing more “fall-like” than watching your favorite football team live and in person. Enjoy the crisp fall air and beautiful skyline views while cheering on the Carolina Panthers in the heart of Uptown Charlotte.

Renaissance Festival

Time travel to the most fabulous party since Camelot! Enjoy an outdoor autumn stroll through the Village of Fairhaven, where history comes alive with non-stop, day-long, immersive and interactive entertainment! Filled with arts and crafts, games and rides, jousting knights on horseback, falconry, mermaids, fairies, dragons, feasting, and so much more! This festival is hosted on the weekends from October 2 to November 21. It’s a rain-or-shine event and can get pretty crowded.

Halloween Bar Crawl

Dress up in your favorite costume for a night out on the town on OCTOBER 29! Rich & Bennetts Halloween Bar Crawl is one of the most iconic events and is sure to be a good time! Charlotte’s Original and Biggest Halloween Craw will have 25+ locations throughout Uptown Charlotte. Cost varies from $10-$25 and includes drink specials, event koozie, giveaways, fun swag, and costume contests, and automatically enters you into a raffle to win some fantastic prizes. As usual, a portion of the proceeds will benefit their local charity partner Carolina Breast Friends.

Thanksgiving Day Parade

The Thanksgiving Day Parade in Charlotte is a fun tradition that dates back to the 1940s. Be a part of the region’s official start to the holiday season, complete with lights, music, and ingenuity. This year, the Novant Health Thanksgiving Eve Parade will light up the night, stepping off on Thanksgiving Eve – Wednesday, November 23, on Tryon Street in Uptown Charlotte. The parade will begin at 5:30 p.m. on Tryon Street, and air live at 6:00 p.m. on WBTV.

When you purchase a home in North Carolina or South Carolina chances are you might be buying a home that has a septic system.  These are typically found in rural areas outside the city limits.  Most septic systems have zero issues, however it is always wise to get an inspection done and ask the seller to pump their “sh*t” out before you purchase.

Two times this year I experienced some septic drama and I swore when I had time I would put together this video for you to enjoy.
