Most golf communities come with a catch: mandatory club membership and dues you pay whether you golf or not. The Villages at Red Bridge does not work that way. Red Bridge Golf Club plays as a public course, so you can live on the fairway and never pick up a club — or play every weekend without buying into anything.

The part most buyers get wrong about golf communities
Ask anyone who has shopped a golf neighborhood and they will tell you the same thing. The house looks great. Then you read the covenants and find a mandatory club membership attached to the deed.
Red Bridge works differently. The course is public, so membership is optional rather than required. As a result, you get the views, the open space, and the quiet without the obligation.
Of course, you can still buy a membership if you play often. However, that is your choice instead of a line item you inherited with the house.
Verify this in the covenants for any specific home before you write an offer. Community rules can change, and I would rather you confirm it than take a blog post’s word for it.
About the golf course
Red Bridge Golf Club opened in 2009. David Postlewaite designed it, and the layout runs 18 holes at par 72, measuring 6,735 yards from the longest tees.
The terrain is wooded with real elevation change, which is unusual for this part of the Piedmont. In addition, a creek runs alongside several holes on the back nine. Golfers describe it as a risk-reward course with some forced carries and demanding par threes. There is also a 12-tee driving range on site.
Because the land drains well, the course tends to stay playable after rain. For a year-round golfer, that matters more than a scorecard does.
Homes in The Villages at Red Bridge
Construction began in 2009 and continued through about 2020. So this is an established neighborhood rather than an active build site. The trees have filled in and the streets are finished.
Homes generally run between 1,800 and roughly 2,300 square feet, with two to four bedrooms and three to four baths. The community includes both single-family homes and attached units.
Layouts here reflect when they were built. Expect open living areas, covered patios, bonus rooms, and flexible spaces. Many homes back to the golf course, a pond, or woods.
Recent median sale prices have run near $515,000, at roughly $207 per square foot. Listings have ranged from the high $200s up to about $675,000 depending on size, view, and condition.
Golf course frontage carries a premium here, as it does everywhere. Therefore two similar floor plans can sit far apart in price based purely on what the back windows look at.

Where you actually are
The Villages at Red Bridge sits in Locust, in Stanly County, on the western edge of the county nearest Charlotte.
- Uptown Charlotte — about 30 to 40 minutes
- Concord — about 25 minutes
- Albemarle — about 15 minutes
- Monroe — about 30 minutes
- Charlotte Douglas International Airport — about 45 minutes
Schools are part of Stanly County Schools. Verify current assignment with the district before you write an offer, since zones change.

Who Red Bridge is right for
This community fits you if you want golf course scenery without a mandatory membership. It also works well if you prefer an established neighborhood over new construction, or if you want single-level and low-maintenance options near Charlotte.
In addition, it suits buyers who golf occasionally rather than religiously. You get the setting either way.
Who it is not right for
However, Red Bridge is not for everyone. Skip it if you want a private club experience with a member-only course, a full country club social calendar, and a gate at the entrance. That is a real thing to want, and this is not that.
Look elsewhere too if you commute to uptown Charlotte five days a week. Thirty to forty minutes each way adds up fast.

Living in Locust
Locust has grown steadily as buyers look past the immediate Charlotte suburbs for space and a quieter pace. In fact, the town has grown close to 30% in recent years. Even so, it still reads as a small town rather than a subdivision with a town attached.
The town calls itself “The City with a Soul.” Meanwhile it keeps adding restaurants, small businesses, and community events without losing that character.
